      Or, at least, have very reasonable assumptions about your audience. When you first start writing a business blog, you may not know exactly who your audience is, and that’s OK! But you should have it narrowed down. This might mean you have more than one audience.

      For example, at People First Content, we want our primary audience to be business owners – you know, potential clients. This audience is people who recognize the value of content and want to work with writers who can manage their blog. 

      As we have tracked our data, though, we’ve come to realize that business owners aren’t the only ones reading and engaging with our content. We’re also reaching other content creators who are searching for advice about how to write content successfully. 

      So, you’ll notice that our blog posts vary somewhat as far as who we are targeting. The general audience is anyone interested in learning more about writing content. But some articles (like this one) are more targeted toward business owners who are just starting a blog, while others (like this one) are more geared towards other content creators looking for useful information to help them with their craft.

    2. Write about what you know

      Writing is a lot easier when you are familiar with the topic. Along with being easier for you to write, your articles will be a lot more engaging and entertaining when you know what you’re talking about!

      Your blog posts don’t need to be strictly about your company or its services. You can talk about anything that’s relevant to your industry that readers will find educational and/or entertaining. Be authentic, and avoid using jargon or language that is difficult to understand. Clear and concise wins every time.

    3. Focus on your reader, not yourself

      Finally, make sure every blog post gives readers an action item that they can do as soon as they finish reading your article. It could be to sign up for your newsletter, schedule a call with your team, or read an article on a related topic. You don’t want readers to think “now what?” when they get to the end of your article.
